About Me
MY name Carlos Chavez
Simply stated, I was initiated into the construction industry in 1987. My father was an alfalfa farmer from Belen, New Mexico turned Contractor when I was twelve. My mastery of bucking hay bales metamorphosed to apprentice pounding nails. Of course, there were many similarities: sun-up to sun-down hours; sweat drenched, dirt laden shirts; the occasional mandated tetanus shot after proving yet again steel is stronger than flesh.
My decision to build a career in the construction industry, however, was not hap chance. During my secondary educational years, and thereafter at University in the early ‘90’s, I learned of the myriad of professions a person could be – a great number of which begin with the letter ‘P’. Although it appealed to my academic nature, the notion of endeavouring to become a Physicist, or Psychologist, or a Pharmacist, failed to promote the salt-of-the-earth temperament I learned in my youth. I wished to marry the scholastic mind set with the sustenance of labour. As such, I secured a Contractor’s licensure and created a company: Mayan Construction, Inc.
